How to fold an origami padlock
Fold a grey strip into a thin bar and bend it into an arch with two 45-degree folds. Fold a gold square into a chunky rounded body and glue the arch behind it.
You need: 1 gold square, 15 x 15 cm, 1 grey strip, 22 x 6.5 cm, glue and a black pen. Medium, 9 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Body: fold in half. Start with the gold square, white side up. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
- Sides behind. Fold the left and right edges behind about 1.5 cm, so the body is chunky.
- Round the corners. Fold the top corners behind a little and the bottom corners behind a bit more: a rounded lock body.
- Shackle: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the grey strip, white side up, standing tall.
- Fold in half. Fold the left edge over onto the right edge.
- In half again. Fold the right edge over onto the left edge: a thin grey bar.
- Bend the arch. About 7.5 cm from the bottom, fold the top of the bar over to the right with a 45-degree fold.
- Down again. About 7.5 cm along, fold the end straight down with a 45-degree fold, so both legs are the same length.
- Glue on the body. Glue the body over the bottom of both legs, so the arch stands up out of its top.
Locked tight!
Draw a keyhole in the middle of the body. Now nobody can open your secret box!
