How to fold an origami kite
Fold a kite base for a two-tone kite and crease its cross spars. A thin strip folded back and forth makes a stripy tail; glue it on and watch it fly.
You need: 1 yellow square and 1 red square three quarters as wide (only a strip of the yellow is used), scissors and a glue stick. Easy, 9 steps, about 6 minutes.
Steps
- Kite: crease the diagonal. Start with the kite. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
- Kite: fold the kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the centre crease.
- Kite: crease the cross spar. Fold the top point down along the line joining the two side corners, crease, and unfold.
- Tail: new strip. Set the kite aside. Cut a strip a finger wide along a whole edge of the yellow sheet and lay it white side up, one end at the top.
- Tail: first zig. A quarter of the way down, fold the strip across at a slant so the rest of it points right.
- Tail: zag. Another quarter along, fold it at a slant again so it points down.
- Tail: zig again. Another quarter along, fold it across once more so the end points right.
- Tail: turn it. Turn the tail an eighth of a turn clockwise, so it zig-zags straight down.
- Glue on the tail. Glue the top of the tail behind the kite's long bottom point.
Up, up and away!
Draw the spars along the two creases. Tape a long thread where they cross and take it outside for a breeze.
