How to fold an origami ladybug
Fold the sides of a red piece in on slants so the wing cases part at the back, and fold the corners behind until it's round. Pleat a black strip into a head and collar.
You need: An 18 × 9 cm red piece and a 4.8 × 10 cm black strip; scissors, glue, a black and a white pen. Hard, 10 steps, about 25 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in the wing cases. Lay the red piece across, white side up. Fold each side in on a slight slant, so the edges meet at the top middle and part by 2.4 cm at the bottom.
- Round the corners. Fold all four outside corners behind, 2.5 cm along each edge.
- Round it more. Fold each of the eight new corners behind a little, 1 cm along each edge, so the shell is round.
- Head and collar. Set the shell aside. Take the black strip, white side down, standing tall.
- Head pleat: top down. Fold the top down on a crease 2 cm from the top.
- Snip the neck. Snip along the fold from each side, stopping 7.5 mm from the middle.
- Slim the head. Fold the flap's long sides in over it, 1.2 cm from the middle.
- Head pleat: back up. Fold the flap back up on a crease 4 mm lower. The small head sits above a wide collar.
- Round head and collar. Fold the head's top corners and the collar's top corners behind on small slants.
- Glue on the shell. Glue the shell on top, its straight top edge across the collar, so the head and a band of collar show above it.
Fly away home!
Dot three black spots on each wing case, two white spots on the collar and two white eyes on the head.
