How to fold an origami puppet mouth

Fold a triangle in half, then flip out both halves of the beak so the mouth gapes open. Draw the eyes and give it something to say.

You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm. Easy, 6 steps, about 3 minutes.

Steps

  1. Make a triangle. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
  2. Fold in half. Fold the left corner over onto the right corner.
  3. Flip out the top beak. Fold the right point up on a shallow crease from the square corner, so its tip pokes out past the long edge.
  4. Flip out the bottom beak. Fold the top point over the same way, so the two tips stick out side by side with a gap between them.
  5. Round the head. Fold the square corner behind to make the back of the head.
  6. Turn it. Turn it so the beak points to the left.

Squawk!

Draw a big eye on each side. Hold it by the back of the head and bob it up and down as it chatters.
