How to fold an origami robo hero
Suit up! A square folds into a steel helmet with a white mouth guard, a cyan strip is snipped into a wide V visor, and a small orange square becomes the badge. Glue them together and draw rivets and a grille.
You need: A 15 cm steel-blue or grey square (helmet), a 15 × 4 cm cyan strip (visor), a 3 cm orange square (badge), scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 13 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Helmet: crease the middle. Start with the coloured side up. Fold the left edge onto the right edge, crease, and unfold.
- Helmet: sides behind. Fold a thin strip behind on each side, about 1.5 cm (a tenth of the width).
- Helmet: jaw plates. Fold both bottom corners up so the bottom edge lies along the middle crease. The white side and a coloured stripe show.
- Helmet: flat chin. Fold the bottom point behind, about a third of the way up the white part, so the chin is flat.
- Helmet: shape the dome. Fold the two top corners behind, about 2 cm along each edge.
- Visor: new sheet. Set the helmet aside. Take the cyan strip, coloured side up.
- Visor: fold in half. Fold the left end over onto the right end.
- Visor: cut the top. Keep it folded. Start on the fold, a little below the top, and cut at a slant up to the top edge, about halfway along.
- Visor: cut the V. Still folded, cut from the bottom corner at the fold up to the middle of the open end. Then snip the end so the top sticks out a bit further than the bottom.
- Visor: open it. Unfold it. The cuts make a wide V.
- Badge: new sheet. Set the visor aside. Take the small orange square, coloured side up.
- Badge: corners behind. Fold each corner behind, about a quarter of the way along each edge, to make a badge with eight sides. Snipping them off works too.
- Suit up. Glue the visor across the helmet, a little above the stripe, so its ends poke out past the sides. Glue the badge in the middle of the forehead.
Power up!
Draw rivets along the stripe and a grille on the mouth guard. Add a white glint on the visor and a white V on the badge.
