How to fold an origami big christmas tree

Fold three green squares of shrinking size into triangles and stack them into a tall tree. A brown trunk goes underneath, two thin yellow diamonds cross to make the star, and you draw on the baubles.

You need: 3 green squares (20, 15 and 10 cm), a 10 cm brown square, two 8 cm yellow squares, and a glue stick. Medium, 16 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Big tier: make a triangle. Start with the biggest green square, white side up, turned like a diamond. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
  2. Middle tier: new sheet. Set it aside. Take the middle-sized green square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
  3. Middle tier: make a triangle. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
  4. Small tier: new sheet. Set it aside. Take the smallest green square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
  5. Small tier: make a triangle. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
  6. Star: first piece. Set the tiers aside. Take a small yellow square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
  7. Star: crease the diagonal. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
  8. Star: upper edges in. Fold the two upper edges in to the centre crease, like a kite.
  9. Star: lower edges in. Fold the two lower edges in to the centre crease too, so it is a long thin diamond.
  10. Star: second piece. Set it aside. Take the second yellow square the same way.
  11. Star: crease the diagonal. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
  12. Star: upper edges in. Fold the two upper edges in to the centre crease.
  13. Star: lower edges in. Fold the two lower edges in too, for a second thin diamond.
  14. Trunk: brown square. Set the star aside. Take the brown square, white side up.
  15. Trunk: sides to the middle. Fold the left and right edges in to meet in the middle, so it's a tall brown strip.
  16. Build the tree. Glue the big tier over the top of the trunk, then the middle and small tiers higher up. Glue the two star pieces across each other on top.
