How to fold an origami rubber duck

Fold a yellow diamond in half into a boat-shaped body with a pointy tail, round a small square into a head, and tuck a little orange beak behind it.

You need: A 15 cm square and an 8 cm square, yellow on one side, a 4 cm orange square, and a glue stick. Easy, 8 steps, about 6 minutes.

Steps

  1. Body: fold in half. Start with the body: the big square, white side up, like a diamond. Fold the top corner down to the bottom corner.
  2. Body: shape it. Fold the bottom point behind to make a flat bottom, and the right corner behind to make a round chest. The left corner stays pointy: that's the tail.
  3. Body: round the bottom. Fold the two bottom corners a little way behind, so the duck floats on a round tummy.
  4. Beak: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the little orange square, white side up, like a diamond.
  5. Beak: fold in half. Fold the left corner over to the right corner, to make a triangle that points right.
  6. Head: new sheet. Set the beak aside. Take the middle-sized yellow square, yellow side up, like a diamond.
  7. Head: round it. Fold all four corners a little way behind, so the head is round.
  8. Glue it together. Glue the body behind the bottom of the head, tail to the left. Glue the beak behind the right side of the head so its point sticks out.

Squeak squeak!

Draw a shiny eye and a curvy wing. Float it in a paper bath or line up a family of ducks.
