How to fold an origami yo-yo
Round a red square into a disc with two sets of corner folds, glue a small yellow disc in the middle, and add a folded paper string at the top.
You need: A 15 cm square red on one side, a 7 cm yellow square, a 1 × 15 cm dark strip, and a glue stick. Easy, 7 steps, about 6 minutes.
Steps
- Disc: corners behind. Start with the big square, red side up. Fold all four corners behind so the square becomes an even eight-sided shape.
- Disc: round it. Fold each of the eight new corners a tiny way behind, so the disc is nice and round.
- String: new strip. Set the disc aside. Take the long dark strip, white side up, standing tall.
- String: fold in half. Fold the left edge over onto the right edge, to make a thin string.
- Middle: new sheet. Set the string aside. Take the yellow square, yellow side up.
- Middle: corners behind. Fold all four corners behind, just like the disc, to make a small round middle.
- Put it together. Glue the red disc behind the yellow middle. Glue the end of the string onto the top edge of the disc, so it hangs straight up.
Up and down!
Draw a little dot in the very middle and a shine on the rim. Hang it from a bedroom door by its string.
