How to fold an origami scissors
Fold a red strip small and snip it twice: it opens into two rings with holes for the fingers. Two grey strips cut to a point cross over them as the blades.
You need: A 10 × 5 cm red strip, two 2 × 15 cm grey strips, scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 13 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Handles: fold in half. Start with the red strip, long side across. Fold the right half over onto the left half.
- Handles: in half again. Fold the top half down onto the bottom half.
- Handles: and again. Fold the left half over onto the right half. Now it is a small square, many layers thick.
- Handles: two snips. Snip off the top-left corner, where all the folds meet, for the finger holes. Snip off the bottom-right corner to round the rings.
- Handles: open. Unfold the last fold.
- Handles: open again. Unfold the next fold.
- Handles: open flat. Open it out flat: two red rings side by side, each with a hole.
- Blade: new strip. Set the handles aside. Take a grey strip, standing up tall.
- Blade: sharp point. Cut off the top-left corner on a long slant, from the top-right corner down the left edge. The top is a sharp blade point.
- Second blade. Set it aside. Take the other grey strip, standing up tall.
- Second blade: point. This time cut off the top-right corner on the same long slant, from the top-left corner.
- Glue it together. Cross the first blade over the second, a little way up from their bottoms. Glue the rings behind, below the cross.
- Stand it up. Turn the scissors so the handles are straight at the bottom.
Snip snip!
Draw a dot where the blades cross for the screw. Paper scissors are the only kind that never need sharpening.
