How to fold an origami drum
Fold white rims on a red square and tuck the sides behind to make a round drum, then add two folded drumsticks crossed above it and draw the lacing.
You need: A 15 cm square, red on one side, two 3 x 12 cm strips of tan paper, a white gel pen and a glue stick. Medium, 8 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Drum: rims. Start with the drum, red side up. Fold the top edge down a wide strip and the bottom edge up a narrow strip, so white rims show.
- Drum: sides. Fold the left and right edges a little way behind.
- Drum: round it. Fold the four corners behind, the bottom ones a bit more, so the drum looks round.
- Stick: new strip. Set the drum aside. Take a tan strip, tan side up.
- Stick: in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, folding behind, to make a thin drumstick.
- Second stick. Set it aside and take the other tan strip, tan side up.
- Stick: in half. Fold it in half the long way behind, just like the first one.
- Glue it together. Glue the two sticks crossed behind the top of the drum, so they stick up in an X.
Rat-a-tat!
Draw a white zigzag between the rims for the lacing, with a dot at each point. Now march around and drum a beat.
