How to fold an origami shamrock
Fold a green square into a slim six-layer point and make one heart-shaped cut: it opens into three heart leaves. Glue a folded green stem behind for St Patrick's Day.
You need: 1 green square (15 cm), a green strip (2 × 10 cm), scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 11 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. Green side up. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge. The middle of the fold is the centre.
- Fold a third over. Fold the left part over from the centre, so the fold splits the bottom half into thirds.
- And the other third. Fold the right part over along the edge of the first flap. You have a narrow point of six layers.
- Cut half a heart. Along the left edge, cut half a heart: in from the edge 6 cm from the point, round over a fat bump and back to the right edge near the point.
- Unfold. Unfold the right part.
- Unfold again. Unfold the left part.
- Open it flat. Unfold the top half. Three heart-shaped leaves!
- Stem: new sheet. Set the leaves aside. Take the green strip, green side up, standing tall.
- Stem: fold in half. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, folding the right half behind so it is green on both sides.
- Glue on the leaves. Glue the leaves over the top end of the stem, one leaf pointing up and the stem coming out between the other two.
- Tilt it. Tilt it a little so the stem leans to the right.
Lucky shamrock!
Draw a vein down the middle of each leaf. Pin it on your shirt for St Patrick's Day.
