How to fold an origami spider hero
Fold a teal square into a hero's mask with a white chin, fold two little orange squares into round goggle lenses, and glue them on. Draw the pupils, a grin and the little spider emblem.
You need: 1 square sheet for the mask (teal on one side), 2 small orange squares two fifths as wide for the lenses (6 cm squares for a 15 cm mask), and a glue stick. Medium, 15 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Mask: crease the middle. Start with the mask, white side up. Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner, crease, and unfold.
- Mask: top corner down. Fold the top corner down, but not all the way: its tip stops a thumb's width above the middle crease.
- Mask: sides in. Fold the left and right corners in so their tips touch the point of the top flap. The creases slant, so the head gets narrower towards the bottom.
- Mask: turn it over. Flip the mask over so the smooth side faces you.
- Mask: white chin. Fold the bottom point up so its tip touches the middle crease. The white part is the hero's chin.
- Mask: fold down the nose. Fold the tip of the white triangle back down a little, so a small teal triangle points down. That's the mask's nose guard.
- Lens 1: new sheet. Set the mask aside. Take a small orange square, white side up.
- Lens 1: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in so their points meet in the middle.
- Lens 1: tips back out. Fold each point back out until it almost touches the outer edge. A big white window opens in the middle.
- Lens 1: round it off. Fold the four corners of the square behind, just a little, so the lens looks round.
- Lens 2: new sheet. Set the first lens aside. Take the other small square, white side up.
- Lens 2: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in to the middle.
- Lens 2: tips back out. Fold each point back out for the white window.
- Lens 2: round it off. Fold the four corners behind to round it off.
- Glue on the goggles. Glue the two lenses side by side on the mask, just below the slanted top corners, with a small gap between them.
Hero time!
Draw a pupil in each lens, a cheeky grin on the white chin under the nose guard, and a little spider hanging from a thread on the forehead.
