How to fold an origami swallow
A kite narrowed into a long point. Snip the outer edges free and swing them out as wings, then snip up the middle of the tail and fold it into a fork.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm, dark blue on one side, and scissors. Medium, 9 steps, about 6 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. Fold the right corner onto the left corner and crease firmly. The middle crease is where you will snip the tail.
- Unfold it. Unfold it, so you can see the crease down the middle.
- Make a kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the centre crease.
- Narrow the kite. Fold the lower edges to the centre crease again, making a long thin point.
- Turn it over. Flip it over, keeping the long point at the bottom.
- Snip the wings. Cut along both long outer edges from the bottom point, stopping 2 cm below the side corners. This frees the flaps behind.
- Wings out. Fold each cut flap out from behind, creasing from the end of the cut, so it sweeps out and back as a wing.
- Snip the tail. Cut up the middle crease from the bottom point, about 9 cm.
- Fork the tail. Fold the inner edge of each tail half behind, creasing from the top of the cut to the outer edge 3.5 cm above the tip. The tips spread into a V.
