How to fold an origami airplane
A long strip folded in thirds makes the white body, and a snipped piece at the back stands up as the tail fin. Glue on a triangle wing and draw the windows for take-off.
You need: 1 square, blue on one side, cut in half. One half is the body; from the other cut a square a quarter as wide as the sheet for the wing. Scissors, glue. Medium, 10 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Wing: fold a triangle. Start with the wing. Take the small square, white side up, and fold it in half from corner to corner.
- Body: new sheet. Set the wing aside. Lay the long half sheet coloured side up.
- Body: crease the tail. Fold the left edge to the middle and crease firmly.
- Body: open it again. Unfold it. The tail fin will stand up at this end.
- Body: bottom third up. Fold the bottom third up, like folding a letter. This white band is the body of the plane.
- Body: snip the fin. Cut along the crease from the top edge down to the white band.
- Body: top third behind. Fold the top third behind, all but the piece left of the cut. That piece stays up as the tail fin.
- Body: slope the fin. Fold the fin's top right corner behind, creasing from the bottom of the cut to the middle of the fin's top edge.
- Body: shape the ends. Fold the corners behind: a long slant at the top of the nose, a tiny one under it, and a slant under the tail.
- Glue on the wing. Glue the wing on the middle of the body, one short edge along the body and the other hanging straight down, so the long edge sweeps back.
Cleared for take-off!
Draw a row of windows along the body, the cockpit window by the nose and a door at the front.
