How to fold an origami lighthouse

A thin strip folded down makes the red roof, the bottom folds up to make the tower, and the white gap between them is the lantern room. Fold the sides behind to slim and taper it.

You need: 1 square sheet, red on one side. Medium, 7 steps, about 6 minutes.

Steps

  1. Crease the middle. Fold in half side to side, crease, then unfold.
  2. Fold the roof strip. Fold a thin strip at the top edge down. This coloured strip becomes the roof.
  3. Fold up the tower. Fold the bottom edge up, leaving a white gap under the roof strip about as tall as the strip. The gap is the lantern room.
  4. Sides behind. Fold the left and right edges behind to meet at the centre crease.
  5. Slim it. Fold the sides behind again, so they meet in the middle at the back.
  6. Taper the tower. Fold the sides behind once more at a slant, from each bottom corner to a point on the top edge halfway to the middle.
  7. Point the roof. Fold the two top corners behind, from the middle of the top edge to the bottom corners of the roof strip.

Shine bright!

Glue on strips of white paper (or use a white pen) for stripes. Draw the lamp's window and a little door.
