How to fold an origami water balloon
The traditional water bomb: collapse a square into a triangle, fold its flaps into a small diamond, then blow into the hole and watch it puff up into a paper cube.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm (thin paper inflates best). Medium, 8 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Crease a diagonal. Fold corner to corner, crease, then unfold.
- Crease the other diagonal. Repeat with the other two corners. The creases cross at the centre.
- Fold in half. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge.
- Collapse into a triangle. Push each side in along its diagonal crease so the paper flattens into a triangle with two flaps in front and two behind.
- Corners up to the top. Fold the two bottom corners of the front flaps up to the top point. Turn it over and do the same behind.
- Sides to the middle. Fold the side corners of the small diamond in to the centre line, front and back.
- Tips down and tuck. Fold the loose top points down and tuck them into the pockets of the side flaps, front and back.
- Blow it up. Hold it loosely and blow hard into the small hole at the bottom point. The sides puff out into a cube.
Splash time!
Fill it with water through the hole and throw it outside on a hot day, or keep it dry and use it as a bouncy ball.
