How to fold an origami tulip and stem
The traditional tulip in two parts. A red triangle folds into a bloom with three petals, and a green kite narrows into a long, slim stem.
You need: 2 square sheets, 15 x 15 cm: 1 red and 1 green on one side, and a glue stick. Medium, 7 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Bloom: triangle. Start with the bloom. White side up, like a diamond, fold the bottom corner up to the top corner.
- Bloom: petals. Fold the left and right corners up so their points stick out a little past the top point, one on each side. The bottom ends in a narrow base.
- Stem: new sheet. Set the bloom aside. Take the green square, white side up, like a diamond, and crease it in half from top to bottom.
- Stem: kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the middle crease.
- Stem: turn over. Flip it over, long point down.
- Stem: narrow. Fold the lower edges to the middle again, making a long thin point. That's the stem.
- Glue on the bloom. Glue the bloom onto the stem, about 5 cm above the stem's top point, so it hides the wide end.
In bloom!
Fold a few in different colours and stand them in a cup as a little bunch.
