How to fold an origami anchor
Fold a long strip into a thick bar, then steer it with folds: out and back for the crossbar, up to a knob, down the shank, and along the bottom, where the ends turn up as arms.
You need: 1 navy strip, 30 x 3 cm (cut from the long side of an A4 sheet). Medium, 9 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. White side up, fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
- In half again. Fold the bottom edge up onto the top edge: a long, thin navy bar.
- Crossbar. About 4 cm from the left end, fold the rest of the bar back to the left, on top: the crossbar.
- Up to the knob. Halfway along the crossbar, fold the bar straight up with a 45-degree fold.
- Down the shank. About 2 cm above the crossbar, fold the bar back down over itself: a knob on top and the long shank below.
- Bottom bar. About 10 cm down, fold the end out to the left with a 45-degree fold.
- Back across. About 4 cm along, fold the end back to the right over the bottom bar, so it sticks out the same on both sides.
- Arms up. Fold both ends of the bottom bar up and out on a slant: the curved-up arms.
- Round the knob. Fold the two top corners of the knob behind a little to round it.
Anchors away!
Your anchor is ready to hold a paper ship. Add a white dot on the knob for the ring if you like.
