How to fold an origami woodcutter's axe
Fold a brown strip narrow and round its end for the handle. A grey square with its top and bottom folded behind on slants becomes the wedge-shaped head, and a thin fold shows its white, sharp edge.
You need: 1 brown rectangle (5 × 15 cm), 1 grey square (7 cm) and glue. Medium, 6 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Handle: narrow it. Brown side up, long sides upright. Fold the long edges behind, more than 1 cm each, so the handle is slim and stiff.
- Handle: round the end. Fold the two bottom corners behind a little, so the end of the handle is rounded.
- Head: new sheet. Set the handle aside. Take the grey square, grey side up.
- Head: sharp edge. Fold a thin strip at the right edge forward, about 7 mm, so a white band shows. That will be the sharp blade.
- Head: wedge shape. Fold the top and bottom edges behind on slants: a lot at the left end, hardly at all at the right, so the head widens towards the blade.
- Glue on the head. Glue the narrow end of the head over the top of the handle, with the blade sticking out to the right.
Timber!
Draw a few wood-grain lines along the handle.
