How to fold an origami barrel
Fold a thin white rim at the top and bottom of a brown rectangle, then fold the four corners behind on long slants so the barrel bulges in the middle.
You need: 1 piece of paper about 13 × 20 cm, brown on one side, and a black pen. Easy, 3 steps, about 3 minutes.
Steps
- The top rim. Lay the paper brown side up, standing tall. Fold the top edge down a thin strip, as wide as a pencil. The white band is the barrel's top rim.
- The bottom rim. Fold the bottom edge up by the same thin strip for the bottom rim.
- Round the barrel. Fold all four corners behind on long slants, from a finger in along each rim to a quarter of the way down the side. Now the barrel bulges in the middle.
Roll out the barrel!
Draw curved lines down it for the wooden planks and two lines across for the metal hoops. Stack a few on a pirate ship or in a castle cellar.
