How to fold an origami beanie
A square folds into a round-topped hat whose doubled bottom rolls up as a thick cuff, with a little octagon pom-pom glued on top.
You need: A 15 cm square and a 5 cm square in a second colour, and a glue stick. Medium, 8 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Hat: sides behind. Start coloured side up. Fold a thin strip on the left and the right behind.
- Hat: bottom behind. Fold the bottom quarter behind.
- Hat: roll up the cuff. Fold the doubled bottom edge up in front, a bit less than the strip you just folded. That's the cuff.
- Hat: corners behind. Fold both top corners behind on a slant, about a third of the way along each edge.
- Hat: round the top. Fold the four little new corners behind too, so the top is a soft dome.
- Pom-pom: new sheet. Set the hat aside. Take the small square, coloured side up.
- Pom-pom: round it. Fold all four corners behind a little, so it looks like a round ball.
- Glue on the pom-pom. Glue the pom-pom behind the top of the hat so most of it peeks out above.
Snug and warm!
Draw ribs on the cuff and little V stitches on the hat. Fold one in each family colour for a winter card.
