How to fold an origami teapot
Pleat the top of a square into a lid and knob, then fold the corners behind for a round pot. A tapered strip makes the spout and a bent strip the handle. Glue them on and add dots.
You need: A 15 cm square, a 4 × 11 cm strip and a 2 × 12 cm strip, all in one colour (blue looks lovely), scissors, glue and a white pen. Medium, 11 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Body: flat top. Body first. Put the square coloured side up, turned like a diamond. Fold the top corner behind about 3.5 cm, making a flat top.
- Body: pleat the knob. Turn it over. Fold that point back up on a line about 1 cm below the top edge, so its tip pokes about 1.5 cm above it. Turn it back: that's the knob.
- Body: round the sides. Fold the left and right corners behind, about 3 cm each, so the sides are straight.
- Body: flat bottom. Fold the bottom corner behind about 3 cm, so the pot stands on a flat bottom. Now it's round all over.
- Spout: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the 4 × 11 cm strip, white side up, standing tall.
- Spout: fold in half. Fold it in half along its length, left edge over onto the right edge, and glue it flat.
- Spout: taper it. Cut a long slim slice off the open edge, from the bottom corner to just under 1 cm from the fold at the top, so it tapers. Snip the top on a slant.
- Handle: new sheet. Set the spout aside. Take the 2 × 12 cm strip, white side up, standing tall.
- Handle: fold in half. Fold it in half along its length, left edge over onto the right edge, and glue it flat.
- Handle: bend the ends. Fold the top 3 cm over to the right on a 45° slant, so it sticks out sideways. Do the same with the bottom end, making a square bracket.
- Put it together. Glue the handle's ends behind the left side of the pot. Glue the wide end of the spout behind the lower right, leaning out and up.
Time for tea!
Draw a curved rim under the lid and dot the pot all over with a white pen. Then pour a pretend cup of tea for a teddy!
