How to fold an origami bow kitty

Four little papers make one happy kitty: a cat-face head for the pink ears, a mint bow snipped from a folded square, a tiny folded nose and a round white face. Put them together and draw her sparkly eyes, smile and rosy cheeks.

You need: 2 pink 15 cm squares (head and face), a mint 8 cm square (bow), a dark-pink 2.5 cm square (nose), scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 18 steps, about 15 minutes.

Steps

  1. Head: make a triangle. Start with the head. Pink square, white side up, like a diamond. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
  2. Head: fold the top down. Fold the top point down until it touches the middle of the bottom edge.
  3. Head: left ear up. Fold the bottom-left corner up on a slant, creasing from just left of the middle of the bottom edge, so its point sticks up above the top edge.
  4. Head: right ear up. Fold the bottom-right corner up the same way.
  5. Head: turn it over. Flip the head over so the smooth side faces you.
  6. Bow: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the mint 8 cm square, white side up.
  7. Bow: fold in half. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge.
  8. Bow: in half again. Fold the left side over onto the right side.
  9. Bow: snip the corners. Keep it folded. Cut a long slant off the top-left and bottom-left corners, from a third of the way down the left fold to near the edge's end. Snip the right corners.
  10. Bow: open it. Unfold the last fold. The snips make a bow, narrow in the middle.
  11. Nose: new sheet. Set the bow aside. Take the little dark-pink square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
  12. Nose: make a triangle. Fold the top corner down to the bottom corner.
  13. Nose: corners down. Fold the left and right corners down to meet the bottom point. Now it's a small diamond.
  14. Nose: top point behind. Fold the top point behind to the middle. The nose has a flat top and a point at the bottom.
  15. Face: new sheet. Set the nose aside. Take the second pink square, white side up.
  16. Face: top and bottom behind. Fold a strip about 3 cm wide behind at the top, then the same at the bottom. The front stays all white.
  17. Face: snip it round. At each corner, cut a big slant from a third of the way down the side to a fifth of the way along the long edge, then snip off the little point it leaves.
  18. Put her together. Glue the head behind the face so the pink ears stick up at the top. Glue the bow on top between the ears, and the nose in the middle of the face.

Meet Bow Kitty!

Draw big round eyes with a lash at each side, a smile under the nose and two slanted blush lines on each cheek. Add white gel-pen sparkles and a heart on the bow.
