How to fold an origami tiger face
Fold an orange square into a tiger's head with snipped round ears, fold a white muzzle with a little nose, and cut a white cheek ruff that sticks out in fur points. Draw on the stripes.
You need: Orange squares, white on the back: 15 cm and 7.5 cm; a white 19 × 3 cm strip; scissors, glue, a black pen and a white gel pen. Medium, 15 steps, about 13 minutes.
Steps
- Head: make a triangle. Start with the big square, white side up, turned like a diamond. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
- Head: top point down. Fold the top point down until it is about 2 cm above the bottom edge, so the head has a flat top.
- Head: ears up. Fold both bottom corners up so their points stick out above the top edge, a little in from the sides.
- Head: round the ears. Snip the tip of each ear round with a few short cuts.
- Head: turn it over. Flip the head over so the smooth side faces you.
- Muzzle: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the small square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Muzzle: nose down. Fold the top corner down to just above the middle. The orange triangle is the nose.
- Muzzle: sides behind. Fold the left and right corners behind, so the muzzle is wide and flat at the sides.
- Muzzle: bottom behind. Fold the bottom corner behind.
- Ruff: new sheet. Set the muzzle aside. Take the white strip, long side across.
- Ruff: fold in half. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge.
- Ruff: snip the ends. At each end, cut off the corner on the folded edge with a slanted cut, from 2 cm in along the fold to the bottom corner.
- Ruff: open it. Unfold the strip. Each end now has two fur points.
- Ruff: ends down. Fold each end down on a long slant, from just beside the middle of the top edge to 1 cm short of the end, so the points stick out.
- Glue it together. Glue the head on the ruff so the fur points stick out under its cheeks. Glue the muzzle on just under the eyes, hanging below the chin.
Roar!
Draw two eyes, a black nose, whisker dots and bold stripes. Add white brow patches with a gel pen.
