How to fold an origami bowling pin
Narrow a pale square into a pin with a slim neck and round head. A red strip folded red-white-red makes the neck stripes; a dark square is the ball.
You need: 1 pale grey or white square and a small one, a red strip, 1 dark blue square, a white pen and a glue stick. Medium, 12 steps, about 14 minutes.
Steps
- Pin: sides behind. Start pale side up. Fold the left and right edges behind, about a quarter of the way.
- Pin: narrow the top. Fold the top corners behind on a slant, from just above the middle of each side, so the top is a slim neck.
- Pin: round the body. Fold the shoulder corners and the bottom corners behind, so the body is round and the base is flat.
- Head: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the small pale square, pale side up.
- Head: corners behind. Fold all four corners behind to make a round head.
- Stripes: new strip. Set the head aside. Take the red strip, white side up.
- Stripes: edges in. Fold the top and bottom edges in, but not to the middle: leave a thin white stripe between the two red ones.
- Stripes: ends behind. Fold the ends behind on a slant, so the strip is narrow at the top and matches the pin's neck.
- Ball: new sheet. Set the stripes aside. Take the dark square, dark side up.
- Ball: corners behind. Fold all four corners behind, so the eight edges left are all the same length.
- Ball: round it. Fold the eight new corners behind a little bit. Now it's nice and round.
- Put it together. Glue the head on top of the neck and the stripes across the neck. Stand the pin just behind the ball.
Strike!
Draw three white finger holes on the ball, near the top, and a white shine on the other side.
