How to fold an origami butterfly

A triangle with its corners folded down. Two snips free the corners, and they swing up and out into the big top wings, leaving the little bottom wings underneath.

You need: 1 square sheet, bright on one side, scissors and a black pen. Easy, 5 steps, about 4 minutes.

Steps

  1. Make a triangle. Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
  2. Corners down. Fold the left and right corners down to meet the bottom point.
  3. Snip the wings free. Cut along both slanted folds, from the outer corners about three-quarters of the way to the top centre.
  4. Wings up. Fold both flaps up and out, creasing from the end of each cut, so their points stick out to the upper left and right. These are the big wings.
  5. Shape the little wings. Fold the bottom point behind, and the two side corners of the bottom part a little behind too.

Flutter by!

Draw a long black body down the middle, with a round head at the top. Then decorate the wings with dots.
