How to fold an origami carnation
Fold a pink strip in half three times and snip a point to make a zigzag frilly top, then glue it into a green cup on a thin green stem.
You need: A pink 15 × 9 cm strip, a 6 cm green square, a green 4 × 21 cm strip, scissors and glue. Medium, 14 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. Pink side up, long edges at the top and bottom. Fold the left half over onto the right half.
- And in half again. Fold the right half over onto the left half.
- And once more. Fold the left half over onto the right half. Now it is a narrow stack, eight layers thick.
- Snip a point. Cut a point into the top: snip from each top corner down a little way, up to the middle of the top edge.
- Unfold. Unfold the last fold.
- Unfold again. Unfold the fold before it.
- Open it out. Unfold the first fold. The top is a frilly zigzag!
- Taper the bottom. Fold the two bottom corners behind at a slant, so the flower gets narrow at the bottom.
- Cup: new sheet. Set it aside. Take the small green square, green side up.
- Cup: taper it. Fold the two bottom corners behind at a slant to make a little cup, wide at the top.
- Stem: new sheet. Set it aside. Take the green strip, white side up, long edges at the sides.
- Stem: edges to the middle. Fold both long edges in to meet in the middle.
- Stem: and again. Fold the new long edges in to the middle again. A thin green stem.
- Glue it together. Glue the frilly flower to the top of the stem, then glue the green cup over the bottom of the flower.
For you!
Draw a zigzag along the top of the cup and a few frilly lines on the flower.
