How to fold an origami potted sprout
Fold a green square into a sprout with two pointed leaves, then fold a clay pot with a thick rim and a tapered foot and slip the sprout in behind.
You need: A 15 cm green square, a 15 cm terracotta orange square and a glue stick. Medium, 12 steps, about 9 minutes.
Steps
- Sprout: Top edges in. Start with the green square, white side up, a corner at the top. Fold the two upper edges in to meet on the middle line.
- Sprout: Bottom edges in. Fold the two lower edges in to the middle too. A long, slim diamond.
- Sprout: Slim it. Fold the left and right corners in, creasing 1.5 cm out from the middle line. A slim strip with a point at each end.
- Sprout: Fold in half. Fold the bottom point up behind, onto the top point.
- Sprout: First leaf. Fold the front point out to the left on a slant, starting 2 cm below the tip. It sticks out as a leaf.
- Sprout: Second leaf. Fold the back point out to the right behind it, the same way. Two leaves!
- Pot: new sheet. Set the sprout aside. Take the orange square, white side up.
- Pot: fold up. Fold the bottom edge up to 3.5 cm below the top edge.
- Pot: fold the rim. Fold the white band at the top down over the front. A thick rim!
- Pot: sides behind. Fold the left and right sides behind, 2.5 cm in from each edge.
- Pot: taper it. Fold the lower corners behind on a slant, from just under the rim to the bottom, so the pot narrows to its foot.
- Plant the sprout. Glue the sprout behind the pot, its stem dropping in behind the rim.
It's growing!
Make a row of pots on a paper windowsill, each sprout a little taller.
