How to fold an origami cattail
Fold a green square into a long, thin stalk with a spike at the top, then glue on a fat brown head folded from a small square.
You need: A 15 cm green square, a 7.5 cm brown square and a glue stick. Medium, 8 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Stalk: kite. Start with the green square, white side up, a corner at the top. Fold the two lower edges in to meet on the middle line.
- Stalk: slim the bottom. Fold the lower edges in to the middle again. A long, slim point.
- Stalk: slim the top. Fold the two short top edges in to the middle line too.
- Stalk: thinner still. Fold the long lower edges in to the middle once more. A thin stalk with a short spike on top.
- Head: new sheet. Set the stalk aside. Take the small brown square, brown side up.
- Head: sides behind. Fold the left and right edges behind, 1.5 cm each. A plump brown strip.
- Head: round it. Fold all four corners behind a little, so the head is a plump, rounded sausage.
- Glue on the stalk. Glue the stalk behind the head, with its thin spike poking out of the top.
A cattail!
Make three of different heights and stand them in a jar like a pond corner.
