How to fold an origami ridged carrot
Taper an orange diamond to a long point, pleat it behind twice so ridges ring the root, then glue in a green triangle with its corners swung up as leaves.
You need: 1 orange square (15 cm), 1 green square (11 cm), both white on the back, and glue. Medium, 10 steps, about 9 minutes.
Steps
- Taper the root. Orange side up, turned like a diamond. Fold the two lower edges behind on long slants from the bottom corner, so it tapers to a point.
- Flat top. Fold the top corner behind on a level line, about 5 cm down.
- First ridge: fold behind. Fold the bottom part behind on a level line just below the middle.
- First ridge: back down. Behind, fold it back down on a line half a centimetre higher. A ridge runs across the front.
- Second ridge. Make a second ridge lower down the same way: fold the tip part behind, then back down behind a little higher.
- Second ridge: back down. Behind, fold it back down so the point hangs below again.
- Leaves: new sheet. Set the root aside. Take the green square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Leaves: fold a triangle. Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner.
- Leaves: spread them. Fold each side corner up on a slant, so three leafy points stand up side by side.
- Leaves on top. Glue the leaves behind the top of the root, so they sprout up out of it.
Crunch!
Draw a few tiny root hairs along the sides.
