How to fold an origami pickaxe

Fold a strip into a thick bar, fold the end back on itself for the head and turn it down in the middle for the handle. Slant the head's top corners behind into two sharp points.

You need: 1 grey strip, 30 x 5 cm (a quarter of an A4 sheet, cut lengthwise). Medium, 7 steps, about 8 minutes.

Steps

  1. Fold in half. White side up, fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
  2. In half again. Fold the bottom edge up onto the top edge: a long, thick grey bar.
  3. Fold back the head. About 11 cm from the left end, fold the rest of the bar back to the left, on top.
  4. Turn down the handle. Halfway along the head, fold the end straight down with a 45-degree fold: the handle.
  5. Sharp points. At each end of the head, fold the top corner behind on a long slant, from the middle of the end to 4.5 cm in along the top edge.
  6. Finish the points. Fold each bottom corner behind, from the middle of the end to the same distance in along the bottom edge: two sharp points.
  7. Round the handle. Fold the two bottom corners of the handle behind a little to round its end.

Dig in!

Your pickaxe is ready for the mine. Draw a few wood lines on the handle if you like.
