How to fold an origami magpie
A kite folded in half makes the body. Its wide end folds slim into a long tail, the thin point folds up into the neck and down into the head, and the belly is rounded off.
You need: 1 square sheet (15 cm), black or dark blue on one side, and a white pen. Medium, 8 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Crease the middle. White side up, turned like a diamond, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner, crease and unfold.
- Kite. Fold the top and bottom edges at the left end in to lie along the middle crease, like a kite. The left point is the head.
- Slim tail. Fold the edges at the right point in too, so the right end gets long and slim. That's the tail.
- Fold in half. Fold the top half down onto the bottom half along the middle crease. The long fold on top is the back.
- Neck up. Fold the thin left point up on a slant, all layers together, so it stands up as the neck.
- Head. Fold the tip of the neck forward and down, about 2 cm from the end, for the head and beak.
- Square the tail. Fold the very tip of the tail behind, all layers, so it ends square.
- Tilt it. Tilt the bird so the long tail slopes down behind it.
One for joy!
Draw a white belly and a white stripe along the wing with a white pen, and add a white-ringed eye.
