How to fold an origami centipede
Fold a long body strip from A4. Fold a second sheet into a narrow stack and snip its corners, and it opens into a comb of legs top and bottom. Glue the body across the middle.
You need: 1 sheet of A4, red-brown on one side, an orange sheet 27 by 15 cm, scissors, a glue stick and a black pen. Medium, 12 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Body: fold in half. Start with the A4, white side up. Fold the left edge over to the right edge.
- Body: in half again. Fold the left edge over to the right edge again, to make a long strip.
- Body: round the ends. Fold all four corners a little behind.
- Legs: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the orange sheet, lying long ways.
- Legs: fold in half. Fold the left edge over onto the right edge.
- Legs: in half again. Fold the right edges over onto the left fold.
- Legs: and again. Fold it in half once more the same way, to a narrow stack. Crease hard.
- Legs: snip the corners. Cut a long thin triangle off all four corners: from each side almost to the middle, out to the end, leaving a narrow tip in the middle.
- Legs: open it. Unfold the last fold.
- Legs: open again. Unfold the next fold.
- Legs: open flat. Unfold the last fold too. Sixteen pointed legs stick out, eight along each long edge.
- Glue on the body. Glue the body along the middle of the legs, smooth side up, sticking out a little at both ends.
Scuttle scuttle!
Draw a line across the body between each pair of legs, two eyes and long feelers at the head, and two short ones at the tail.
