How to fold an origami chef hat
A pale square folds into a puffy dome, and a coloured strip glued across the bottom makes the band. Draw a few soft pleats on the puff.
You need: A 15 cm square of pale paper and a 12 cm square in a bright colour, both white on the back, and a glue stick. Medium, 8 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Puff: fold the bottom behind. Start with the pale square, coloured side up. Fold the bottom quarter behind.
- Puff: corners behind. Fold both top corners behind on a slant, about a quarter of the way along each edge.
- Puff: round the top. Fold the four little new corners behind too, so the top of the puff is round.
- Puff: tuck the bottom corners. Fold the two bottom corners behind a little, so the puff narrows where it meets the band.
- Band: new sheet. Set the puff aside. Take the bright square, white side up.
- Band: fold in half. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge.
- Band: in half again. Fold the bottom edge up to the top again, making a long strip.
- Glue on the puff. Glue the puff behind the band so the band covers its narrow bottom and the puff spreads out above.
Bon appétit!
Draw a few soft pleats down the puff. Tape it to a paper strip to wear while you help in the kitchen.
