How to fold an origami flying cicada
The classic cicada start, but the wings swing out wide instead of lying along the body. One fold makes the head. Six folds in all.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm, brown on one side, and a black pen. Easy, 4 steps, about 3 minutes.
Steps
- Make a triangle. White side up, like a diamond. Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner.
- Corners up. Fold the left and right corners up to the top point. Now it is a small diamond with two flaps.
- Spread the wings. Fold each flap's top point down and out, so it sticks out past the side a little lower than the bottom point. Wide wings!
- Fold the head. Fold the top point down about 3 cm, leaving the wings alone, to make a flat-topped head.
Bzzzz!
Draw two big round eyes on the corners of the head.
