How to fold an origami cooking pot
A square folds into a wide red pot. A folded strip makes the sloping lid, a little square the knob, and one long black strip runs behind the pot as both handles.
You need: A 15 cm square and a 17 x 6 cm strip of red paper, a 4 cm square and a 3 x 20 cm strip of black paper, and glue. Medium, 12 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Pot: top behind. Pot first. Start red side up. Fold the top edge behind, about 4.5 cm, so the pot is wider than it is tall.
- Pot: round the bottom. Fold the two bottom corners behind a little, about 1.5 cm each way.
- Lid: new sheet. Set the pot aside. Take the red strip, white side up, lying across.
- Lid: fold in half. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
- Lid: slope the top. Fold the two top corners behind on a slant, 3 cm along the top and 1.5 cm down the side. The lid slopes like a low roof.
- Knob: new sheet. Set the lid aside. Take the small black square, white side up.
- Knob: fold in half. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
- Knob: round the top. Fold the two top corners behind a little to round the knob.
- Handles: new sheet. Set the knob aside. Take the long black strip, white side up, lying across.
- Handles: fold in half. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
- Handles: round the ends. Fold all four corners at the two ends behind a little, so both handles are round.
- Put it together. Glue the pot over the strip, just under its top, so a handle sticks out each side. Glue the lid on top and the knob behind the lid.
Soup's on!
Draw a white shine on the pot and wavy steam rising from the lid. What's cooking?
