How to fold an origami satellite
Fold a blue square into one long strip for the solar panels, a gold square into a tall box for the body, and a little silver diamond into a dish, then glue them together.
You need: A 7 cm gold square, a 15 cm blue square, a 5 cm silver or grey square, and a glue stick. Medium, 8 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Body: sides to the middle. Start with the gold square, white side up. Fold the left and right edges in to meet on the middle line.
- Dish: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the little silver square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Dish: make a triangle. Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
- Dish: flatten the bowl. Fold the bottom point up behind, so the triangle becomes a shallow bowl.
- Panels: new sheet. Set the dish aside. Take the blue square, white side up.
- Panels: edges to the middle. Fold the top and bottom edges to meet on the middle line.
- Panels: fold in half. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge to make one long blue strip.
- Build the satellite. Glue the gold body across the middle of the strip, so a solar panel sticks out on each side. Glue the dish on top of the body, tipped to the right.
In orbit!
Draw a grid of cells on each blue panel and a little window on the body. Hang it from a thread so it floats.
