How to fold an origami firefighter helmet
A red dome sits on a long folded brim that dips down at the back, and a little gold shield folded from a diamond goes on the front.
You need: A 15 cm and a 19 cm square of red paper, a 5 cm square of gold or yellow paper, and a glue stick. Medium, 12 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Brim: fold in half. Start with the big red square, white side up. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge.
- Brim: in half again. Fold the bottom edge up to the top again.
- Brim: and once more. Fold the bottom edge up to the top one more time, making a long thin strip.
- Brim: round the ends. Fold all four corners of the strip behind a little, so both ends are round.
- Shield: new sheet. Set the brim aside. Take the little gold square, gold side up, like a diamond.
- Shield: flat top. Fold the top corner behind, a little over a third of the way down, for a flat top.
- Shield: trim the sides. Fold the left and right tips behind a little, so it looks like a shield.
- Dome: new sheet. Set the shield aside. Take the other red square, white side up.
- Dome: fold in half. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge.
- Dome: corners behind. Fold both top corners behind on a slant, a bit less than a third of the way along each edge.
- Dome: round the top. Fold the four little new corners behind too, so the dome is smooth and round.
- Glue it together. Glue the brim across the bottom of the dome, long end to the left and tipped down a little. Glue the shield on the front.
Ready to roll!
Draw a star on the shield and a ridge over the dome. Make a fire truck to go with it!
