How to fold an origami graduation cap
A doubled black rectangle is cut into a wide flat diamond for the board, a black cap sits underneath, and a thin gold strip bends over the edge as the tassel.
You need: Two black squares (15 cm and 8 cm) and a 13 cm gold or yellow square, all white on the back, scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 10 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Cap: round the bottom. Start with the small black square, black side up. Fold the two bottom corners behind on a slant to round them.
- Tassel: new sheet. Set the cap aside. Take the gold square, white side up.
- Tassel: fold in half. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge.
- Tassel: in half again. Fold the bottom edge up to the top again.
- Tassel: thin strip. Fold the bottom edge up to the top one more time, making a thin gold strip.
- Tassel: bend it down. Fold the right half of the strip straight down on a slanted crease in the middle, so it makes an L.
- Board: new sheet. Set the tassel aside. Take the big black square, white side up.
- Board: fold in half. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge.
- Board: cut the corners. Cut off all four corners in straight lines from the middle of each side, through both layers. You get a wide flat diamond.
- Glue it together. Glue the cap behind the board so its round bottom shows below. Glue the tassel from the middle to the right point, hanging down.
Congratulations!
Draw a tie and a fringe on the end of the tassel. Write a name and the year on the back for a party card.
