How to fold an origami french fries
Fold a red square into a tapered carton. Then fold a long yellow strip back and forth into five fries that fan out, and tuck them behind the carton.
You need: 1 red square (15 cm) and 1 long yellow strip (about 1.5 by 30 cm), and glue. Medium, 11 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Carton: in half. Start with the carton, white side up. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge.
- Carton: sides. Fold both sides behind, about a quarter of the way in on each side.
- Carton: taper. Fold the two sides behind on a slant, so the carton gets narrower towards the bottom.
- Fries: the strip. Set the carton aside. Take the long yellow strip, yellow side up.
- Fries: narrow it. Fold the strip in half the long way, folding one half behind. Now it's yellow on both sides.
- Fries: in half. Fold the strip in half across the middle. The fold is the tip of the tallest fry.
- Fries: lean out. Near the bottom, fold the front strip up so it leans left, and the back strip up behind so it leans right.
- Fries: tips. Fold both strips straight back down at the top. Each new fry has a folded tip, a little shorter than the middle one.
- Fries: lean out more. At the bottom, fold the strips up again, leaning out further: front one left, back one right.
- Fries: last tips. Fold both strips back down at the top again. That's five fries fanning out from the bottom.
- Fill the carton. Glue the fries behind the carton, so the bottom of the fan is hidden and the fries stick out of the top.

Draw a curved line across the carton for its scooped front. Make a bigger carton for a family-size portion!
