How to fold an origami giraffe face
A long narrow kite with its top snipped into two knobby horns, and a yellow triangle glued behind for the ears. Draw the brown patches.
You need: 2 yellow squares, 15 × 15 cm and 10 × 10 cm, scissors, glue and a brown marker. Medium, 12 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. Turn the square like a diamond, white side up. Fold the left corner onto the right corner.
- Open it again. Unfold it, so there is a crease down the middle.
- Make a kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the middle crease.
- Make it long. Fold the two upper edges in to the middle crease too. Now you have a long, narrow face.
- Turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth side faces you.
- Snip the horns. Cut down the middle crease from the top point, about 3 cm.
- Part the horns. Fold the inner edge of each half out a little, on a line from the end of the cut, so the two horns lean apart.
- Knobby tops. Fold the tips of both horns behind, straight across, so they end in flat knobs.
- Blunt the chin. Fold the bottom point behind, about 3 cm up, to make the muzzle.
- Ears: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the smaller square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Ear triangle. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
- Glue on the ears. Glue the head on top of the triangle, just under the horns, so the two pointy ears stick out at the sides.
Head and shoulders above!
Draw brown patches all over the face, dark knobs on the horns, two gentle eyes and two nostrils.
