How to fold an origami hair bow

A folded band is snipped in the middle of its fold and rounded at the ends, opening into a bow. A strip folded on a slant hangs below as the tails, and a little knot holds it all.

You need: A 15 cm square, a 6 cm square and a 4 cm by 13 cm strip, all pink on one side, scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 13 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Tails: fold in half. Start with the strip, coloured side up. Fold it in half lengthwise, the left half behind.
  2. Tails: tilt it. Tilt the strip a little, top to the left.
  3. Tails: fold it over. Fold the top half straight down across the middle. The two ends spread apart like an upside-down V.
  4. Tails: snip the ends. Snip each end on a slant, so its outside edge is the longer one.
  5. Bow: new sheet. Set the tails aside. Take the big square, white side up.
  6. Bow: make a band. Fold the top and bottom edges to meet in the middle.
  7. Bow: fold in half. Fold the left edge over onto the right edge.
  8. Bow: snip and round. On the folded edge, snip a triangle off the top and the bottom, nearly a third deep. Round off both corners at the open end.
  9. Bow: open it. Unfold it. Now it's a bow shape, pinched in the middle.
  10. Knot: new sheet. Set the bow aside. Take the small square, white side up.
  11. Knot: sides in. Fold the left and right edges to meet in the middle.
  12. Knot: turn it over. Flip the knot over, so the smooth side faces you.
  13. Glue it together. Glue the tails behind the middle of the bow, the point of the V hidden. Glue the knot over the pinched middle.

Pretty as a picture!

Draw a little curve in each loop next to the knot. Clip it to a hair slide or glue it on a gift box.
