How to fold an origami handbag
The bottom folds up into a pocket and the top folds down as a pointed flap. A strip folded thin and bent twice makes the handle.
You need: A 15 cm square, white on the back, a 3 cm by 14 cm strip of brown paper, a glue stick and a pen. Medium, 9 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Fold the pocket. Start white side up. Fold the bottom edge up, to a bit above the middle.
- Fold the top corners. Fold both top corners down a little on a long slant, from the middle of the top edge.
- Fold down the flap. Fold the white top part down over the pocket, folding where the white meets the colour. The corners tuck inside.
- Slant the sides. Fold the left and right edges behind on a slant, more at the top than at the bottom.
- Handle: new sheet. Set the bag aside. Take the brown strip, coloured side up.
- Handle: fold in half. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, the top half behind.
- Handle: in half again. Fold it in half lengthwise again, bottom up, to a thin strap.
- Handle: bend the ends. A third of the way in from each end, fold the end down on a slant, so the strap makes an arch.
- Glue on the handle. Glue the ends of the handle behind the top of the bag.
Off to town!
Draw a round clasp on the point of the flap. Slip a tiny paper note or a sticker inside the pocket.
