How to fold an origami hibiscus
Fold a long pink strip in half, then zigzag both halves out and back into five round petals. Add a yellow stamen folded from a thin strip.
You need: 1 long pink strip (about 2 by 30 cm), 1 thin yellow strip (about 1 by 7 cm), glue and a black and a white pen. Medium, 11 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- In half. Pink side up, strip lying across. Fold the right half behind onto the left half. The fold is the tip of the first petal.
- Out to the sides. A petal's length in from the tip, fold the front strip out and down, and the back strip out and up, behind it.
- Fold back. A petal's length out, fold each strip straight back towards the middle. Now there are three petals.
- Out again. In the middle, fold each strip out once more, leaving a gap on the left for the stamen.
- Fold back. A petal's length out, fold each strip straight back to the middle again. Five petals!
- Round the petals. Fold the two corners at the end of every petal a little way behind, so the petals are soft and round.
- Turn it. Turn the flower so the first petal points straight down and the gap is at the top.
- Stamen: new strip. Set the flower aside. Take the thin yellow strip, yellow side up, standing up.
- Stamen: narrow it. Fold the strip in half the long way, folding one half behind, so it's a thin yellow stick.
- Stamen: the knob. Fold the top end down a little, so the tip is thick like the stamen's fluffy end.
- Glue it on. Glue the stamen onto the middle of the flower, standing up in the gap between the two top petals.
Aloha!
Draw a big dark spot in the middle, the flower's eye, and dot white pollen on the stamen's tip.
