How to fold an origami kitten

Four little sheets make a playful kitten: a big cat head with pointy ears, a small round body, a tail strip turned into a curl, and a blue ball of yarn at its paws.

You need: A square for the head, a smaller square for the body, a thin strip for the tail, a small blue square, and glue. Medium, 17 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Head: make a triangle. Start with the head. Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
  2. Head: ears up. Fold the left and right corners up at a slant so they poke above the top edge as pointy ears.
  3. Head: turn it over. Flip the head so the smooth side faces you.
  4. Head: short chin. Fold the bottom point behind, about halfway up, so the kitten has a short wide face. The head is done.
  5. Tail: thin strip. Set the head aside. Take the thin strip, white side up, standing tall.
  6. Tail: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, so it is thin and coloured on both sides.
  7. Tail: bend it over. Fold the top end over on a slant so it points to the right.
  8. Tail: curl the tip. Fold the end down on a slant again, so the tail curls over like a hook.
  9. Yarn: small square. Set the tail aside. Take the small blue square, white side up.
  10. Yarn: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
  11. Yarn: turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth coloured side faces you.
  12. Yarn: round it off. Fold all four points behind, so it looks like a round ball.
  13. Body: new sheet. Set the yarn aside. Take the body square, white side up.
  14. Body: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
  15. Body: turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth coloured side faces you.
  16. Body: round it off. Fold all four points behind, so the tummy is round.
  17. Glue it together. Glue the tail behind the body so it curls up at the side, the head on top, and the ball of yarn in front by the paws.

Mew!

Draw big eyes, a little nose, whiskers and paws, and wind a few threads round the yarn.
