How to fold an origami kiwi bird
Fold a brown square into a bird base with a long point. Round off the back end into a plump body, then bend the point down as the long beak.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm, brown on one side, and a black pen. Easy, 8 steps, about 4 minutes.
Steps
- Crease the middle. White side up, like a diamond. Fold the top corner down to the bottom one and open it again, for a crease across the middle.
- Long point. Fold the two right-hand edges in to lie along the crease. The brown flaps make the right end a long point.
- Fold in half. Fold the top half down onto the bottom half along the crease, flaps inside. The long fold on top is the bird's back.
- Round the back end. Fold the left point behind, about 4 cm from its tip, so the back end is square.
- Round the back. Fold the square top-left corner behind, about 1.5 cm along each edge.
- Round the tummy. Fold the low corner of the body behind on a slant, so the tummy is round.
- Bend the beak. Fold the long point down on a slant, starting the crease on the back 7 cm from the tip, so it reaches down as a long beak.
- Tip it forward. Tilt the kiwi forward a little so its beak pokes down at the ground.
Sniff sniff!
Draw a little eye just behind the beak and a few short fuzzy lines on the body.
