How to fold an origami pineapple
Fold half a green square into a slim fan and snip a point: it opens into a crown of spiky leaves. Glue on a plump yellow body and draw the criss-cross skin.
You need: 1 yellow square (13 cm), half a green square (12 cm), scissors, a glue stick and a black pen. Medium, 11 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Body: sides behind. Start with the yellow square, yellow side up. Fold the left and right edges behind, about 1.7 cm each, so it is taller than wide.
- Body: round it. Fold all four corners behind, about 2 cm along each edge, to make a plump oval.
- Crown: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the half green square, green side up, long edge at the bottom.
- Crown: fold in half. Fold the right edge over onto the left edge.
- Crown: edge to the bottom. Fold the folded right edge down onto the bottom edge, creasing from the bottom-right corner.
- Crown: and again. Fold the new slanted edge down onto the bottom edge again, from the same corner. Crease all the layers hard.
- Crown: snip a sharp point. Cut through all the layers in two snips that meet in a sharp point: from 3 cm along each edge, measured from the corner, to 6 cm out in the middle.
- Crown: open it. Unfold the last fold.
- Crown: open again. Unfold the next fold.
- Crown: open flat. Open the crown out flat: a fan of eight spiky leaves.
- Glue it together. Glue the body over the bottom of the crown, so the corner where the leaves meet is hidden behind it.
Sweet and spiky!
Draw slanted lines both ways across the body for the criss-cross skin, and a dot in each little diamond.
