How to fold an origami pretzel

Fold a long brown strip in half the long way, then fold both ends round at four corners: round the belly, up the sides, over the top, and crossed in the middle.

You need: 1 long strip of brown paper (about 1.5 by 30 cm), and a white pen. Medium, 5 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Make the rope. Brown side up, long edges at the top and bottom. Fold the bottom half behind, so the strip is narrow and brown on both sides.
  2. Round the belly. Leave a short piece flat in the middle for the bottom of the belly. Fold each end up on a slant, so they rise out to the sides.
  3. Up the sides. Fold each end again so it runs almost straight up.
  4. Over the top. Fold each end in on a slant, so it heads up and over towards the middle. Two big round lobes!
  5. Cross the ends. Fold both ends down across the middle so they cross, and each one comes to rest on the belly on the other side.

Twisty!

Dot white salt along the rope with a white pen. Three holes and a twist: just like the bakery ones!
