How to fold an origami rhino face

Fold an upside-down kite into a broad head with a flat muzzle. Pop two ears out of a smaller sheet, fold an ivory sheet into a tall pointed horn and glue it up the face.

You need: 2 squares grey on one side (15 cm and 11 cm), a 9 cm ivory square, glue and a black pen. Medium, 15 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Head: crease the middle. Start with the big square, white side up, like a diamond. Fold the left corner to the right corner and unfold.
  2. Head: upside-down kite. Fold the two upper edges in to lie along the middle crease.
  3. Head: turn it over. Flip it over from side to side, long point still at the top. It is all grey now.
  4. Head: forehead. Fold the long top point behind, about 6 cm down from its tip, so the forehead is flat.
  5. Head: cheeks. Fold the left and right corners behind on upright creases, 5 cm either side of the middle.
  6. Head: muzzle. Fold the short bottom point behind, 3 cm up from its tip, so the bottom is broad and flat: the muzzle.
  7. Horn: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the 9 cm ivory square, ivory side up, like a diamond.
  8. Horn: a kite. Fold the two upper edges behind so they meet along the middle at the back.
  9. Horn: narrower. Fold the new side edges behind to the middle again, so the top is a long sharp point.
  10. Horn: flat base. Fold the short bottom point behind where it is widest. Now it is a tall pointed horn.
  11. Ears: new sheet. Set the horn aside. Take the 11 cm grey square, white side up, like a diamond.
  12. Ears: a triangle. Fold the top corner down to the bottom corner.
  13. Ears: corners down. Fold the left and right corners down to meet the bottom point.
  14. Ears: pop them up. Fold each flap up from its outer corner so its point sticks up and out to the side.
  15. Glue it together. Glue the ears behind the top of the head. Glue the horn on the face, its base just above the muzzle, so it rises up past the forehead.

Snort!

Draw two small eyes far out on the cheeks, two big nostrils under the horn, a mouth line and a wrinkle on each cheek.
