How to fold an origami rose
Fold a red square into a bud with two petals wrapped round a curled middle, then add a thin green stem and a pointed leaf. Draw a swirl for the rolled petals.
You need: A 12 cm red square, a 15 × 3.75 cm green strip, a 6 cm green square, a glue stick and a black pen. Medium, 12 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Head: make a triangle. Start with the red square, white side up, like a diamond. Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner.
- Head: curl the middle. Fold just the tip of the top point down in front. This is the curled middle petal.
- Head: left petal. Fold the left corner up on a slant from the middle of the bottom edge, so it crosses the middle and pokes out at the top right.
- Head: right petal. Do the same with the right corner, crossing over the first petal. The two petals hug the curled middle.
- Head: round the bottom. Fold the bottom point a little way behind so the bud sits round on its stem.
- Leaf: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the small green square, green side up, like a diamond.
- Leaf: top edges. Fold the two top edges behind so they meet on the middle line.
- Leaf: bottom edges. Fold the two bottom edges behind onto the middle line too. A slim pointed leaf.
- Stem: new sheet. Set it aside. Take the green strip (15 × 3.75 cm), white side up, long edges at the sides.
- Stem: edges to the middle. Fold both long edges in to meet in the middle.
- Stem: and again. Fold the new long edges in to the middle again. Press hard: a thin green stem.
- Glue it together. Glue the head on top of the stem, and the leaf behind the stem halfway down, pointing up and out.
A rose for you!
Draw a swirl on the curled petal for the rolled-up middle. Make a few and tie them with a ribbon.
